Cultural Dortmund

Dortmund is a city of cultural energy and variety. Embedded in the Europe's largest arts & cultural landscape - in the Ruhr, that is - Dortmund's arts & culture scene is a byword for dynamism and innovation. Dortmund sees such energy as an opportunity and is already shaping up as a centre of music and art for the 21st century.

Contemporary museums such as the Museum am Ostwall for 20th century art, privately and municipally owned art galleries, theatres, the opera house and the richly varied music scene from jazz session to philharmonic concert… all living proof of Dortmund's cultural diversity. Each and every day, we put on a programme for you.
One of the symbols of new Dortmund is the new concert house, the Philarmonie für Westfalen. The excellent quality of its acoustics and architecture provide the basis for a range of concerts of international standing.
Other important input to cultural life in our town comes from the independent community of theatre people, artists, musicians and authors. Indeed, one of Dortmund's trademarks in this respect is the committed way the independent scene and the more established cultural bodies work together on joint projects.

Finally, if you want to look up the written or spoken word, Dortmund's newly built City and State Library has a collection of 1.2 million items from different media. And if that's not enough to satisfy your reading appetite, there's a good number of bookshops too.

Rail Bahn - The underground (U-Bahn) is the easiest way to get to the stadium.
your way to Westfalenstadion: You can take the underground at these stations for example:

Don’t worry, Dortmund isn't that big (600.000) and you won't be able to miss the Westfalenstadion. Just follow the black&yellow hordes!

There are several pubs in downtown Dortmund (around “Alter Markt”, 2,5km north of stadium). A even better place for your non-football-activities is the "Kreuzviertel" which is halfway between downtown and Westfalenstadion (underground station: "Kreuzstr.", line: U12). Here you’ll find many pubs and clubs and on match days surely meet other guest supporters.
